The launch of John Truby’s book ‘Anatomy of Genres,’ which I translated, took place at TIFF.
I was joined by Professor Ioan Pop-Curșeu, a specialist in genre films, and film critic Ion Indolean, who moderated the discussion.
‘Anatomy of Genres’, released in English in 2022, translated by me and published at Presa Universitară Clujeană in 2025, takes further the anatomical model of story analysis and creation proposed by John Truby in ‘Anatomy of Story’ (Presa Universitară Clujeană, 2024, translated by Alexandru Maftei), applying it to the most important genres of storytelling: Horror, Action, Myth, Memoir, Coming of Age, Science Fiction, Crime, Comedy, Western, Gangster, Fantasy, Detective, Thriller and Romance. It is a ‘lifetime’ work – as the author himself says – which aims not only to train and guide those who earn their living from writing, but also to outline a New Poetics that explains how the world works through stories.
